2020 Virtual Reading Challenge

April 6, 2020 by Newportculture

Now is a great time to find your favorite book and join us for our Virtual Reading Challenge. You can sign up with the link below. The requirements are to read 20 new to you books in 2020, read one book from each category, (we have a suggested list for each category) but you are free to choose to read a book of your choosing for the category requirement. We will have a get together in December for all adults that sign up and complete the challenge; each participant will have their name entered for a literary raffle basket drawing.   Join the NCC Reading Challenge Discussion Group on Facebook and let us know what you are reading, share your opinion about your current book, add suggestions for books, and personal recommendations.

Need Books? We Got Books!

April 6, 2020 by Newportculture

As a service to our community, you can call (368-5074) to request materials or send an email to jelwell@newportculturalcenter.org. When we have fulfilled your request we will call or email you and you may pick up your books at the front door.
We place the requested books with the patron’s name on a cart inside the front doors of the library. The inside doors to the library are locked so there is no face to face interaction with the public. When the books are returned to the book drop, we collect the books and place them in separate bins. We wait one week before we circulate the books again. They will not circulate within that time and will be unavailable in our catalog. Returning the books to the book drop is not a requirement and patrons can keep the books until we reopen if they wish.
We would be happy to select a bundle of children’s books for your child/children to read. Let us know their interest and reading level and we will work to keep your child/children supplied in books.  Any child in the RSU #19 district is eligible for a free library card. If you would like to request books or search for specific titles you can also search our catalog by visiting newportculturalcenter.org – locate the tab Readers Corner, pull down the tab and search our collection.
We are unable to fulfill request from other libraries as that system is not in operation at this time.  You can search our catalog by visiting newportculturalcenter.org – locate the tab Readers Corner, pull down the tab and search our collection.
The NCC also offers free downloadable ebooks and audio books through cloud library you can access cloud library at – https://www.yourcloudlibrary.com/. If you do not have a number please feel free to call the Cultural Center (368-5074) or email (jelwell@newportculturalcenter.org  and we will provide you with a number to access this free service.
